Missouri Auto Insurance
In 2018, nearly 270,000 drivers were involved in car wrecks throughout Missouri. Unfortunately, more than 49,000 of them didn’t have the appropriate car insurance.
It is imperative that every driver has car insurance because of the significant cost that any vehicle mishap might bring. With the right policy in place, you can cover your own accident damage and cover any legal responsibility you might have to compensate others. At the end of the day, your policy can be instrumental in helping you pick up the pieces and move on from these challenges.
At Tri-County Agency, we’ve provided residents of Warrenton, Wentzville, Lake St. Louis, Troy, O'Fallon, St. Charles and the surrounding area with quality policies for years. Does Missouri require auto insurance?
Missouri uses an at-fault insurance system, which means that drivers who cause accidents must pay for their own damage costs and the damage they cause to others. Because of these rules, Missouri drivers are required to carry at least the following coverage:
-
Property Damage Liability Coverage: $10,000
-
Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverage: $25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident
Liability coverage is the part of your policy that you will use to repay third parties for their own property damage or injuries when an accident is your fault. On the other hand, uninsured motorist coverage compensates you when another at-fault driver has no liability insurance to compensate you.
It’s always in your best interest to carry higher limits on your required coverage. The more protection you have, the better you’ll be able to afford particularly costly at-fault accidents.
What other benefits do I need?
Though a minimum Missouri liability/uninsured motorist coverage policy keeps you legal, it’s not enough coverage for most drivers. As a result, you should always add other coverage into your policy.
Some of the critical benefits to consider including in your policy are:
-
Comprehensive Coverage: Damage to your vehicle that is not related to a wreck will have coverage. This policy will pay for damage from fires, theft, vandalism, severe weather and similar incidents.
-
Collision Coverage: If you have a wreck, then this coverage will pay for your vehicle damage.
-
Underinsured Motorist Coverage: Like uninsured motorist coverage, these benefits pay for your damage when a third party is at-fault for the wreck. However, it pays if that person has liability insurance, but the policy does not offer adequate limits for all your losses.
-
Medical Payments Coverage: If you or your passengers get hurt in wrecks, then this coverage can pay for your medical bills. A more expansive type of coverage, called personal injury protection (PIP) will help you pay not only for your medical costs, but also other financial hardships like lost income or childcare costs that you have to pay due to your injuries.
Plus, you can augment your policy with numerous other benefits, such as accident/minor violation forgiveness, diminishing deductibles, roadside assistance and towing benefits, rental car reimbursement and more.
